Hi, I’m Maggy.
Co-founder and current owner of Sewing Lounge, I love the act of stitching. Self-trained until I started sewing for local designers, I credit the many amazing women I worked with for supplementing my sewing knowledge, helping me develop my innate skills to become the sewist I am today.
From sewist to Sewing Lounge founder
What to do with accumulated sewing knowledge? Open a sewing lounge, of course! It all began in 2005. Originally focused solely on sharing the skills I learned in the wild via camps, classes and private lessons, Sewing Lounge has evolved into a fabric store specializing in garment fabric and supplies. 2024 heralds the return of classes as Izzy, one of my former students and now a technical designer, takes over the teaching reins.
My passion!
Improvisational bead embroidery. Glass beads, sequins and buttons on cotton.
Tiered loveliness
Sundress turned jumper, the Verano by Christine Haynes in a washed linen.
Button shirt
Cotton flannel in a riff on a traditional button-up shirt. Pattern is the Archer Shirt by Grainline Studio.
Casual comfort
Sew House Seven’s fabulous Remy Raglan in organic cotton double gauze.
Gathering detail
Italian cotton voile made beautiful gathers for Anna Allen’s Anthea sleeve.
Wedding dress
Two layers of double crepe silk moroccan with a corded lace overlay. Handworked Swarovski pearls and crystal seed beads embellish the neckline. The scalloped selvedge of the lace was cut to become the hemline trim which was appliquéd in place. 69 silk covered buttons accent the center back. Dress designed by the bride. Pattern by Kimberly Wick.
Men’s shirts
Birch Fabrics has the best prints for men’s Hawaiian shirts! I make them for the shop and my very tall nephew. All hacked, the first two are Wardrobe By Me Men’s Tropical Shirt. Far right is Kwik Sew 3484. Each in organic cotton poplin.
