Tailored for advanced beginners, this class will lead you through the process of constructing a garment using a sewing pattern.

Class Description

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner

Time:

First session 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm

Second and Third sessions

5:30 pm - 8:30 pm

Cost: $240 + supplies

Prerequisite: Students must know how to use a sewing machine

Students receive a 10% discount on all shop purchases, including machines!

You know how to use a sewing machine but are still very much a novice. In this class students will be making a pair of pajama pants or shorts.

The first class will focus on measurements, printing the pattern in your correct size and shopping for fabric and supplies.

The next two sessions will be devoted to the process of cutting and sewing so you can walk out of the last class with a finished project.

What you’ll learn

Pattern and sewing basics:

• Take body measurements

• Select appropriate fabric and supplies

• Adjust, pin, and cut a pattern

• Read pattern instructions

Advanced techniques:

• How to create and install inseam pockets

• Pressing techniques

• Use an overlock machine

• Hemming and installing an elastic waistband

What to bring

During the first session students will shop for supplies and prepare their pattern. Sewing machines will not be needed during the first session. Students should bring sewing machines to the second and third sessions. Sewing Lounge will provide an overlock machine for each student to use for seam finishing.

A welcome letter will be emailed to you upon registration and it will contain all the details of the class process and what to bring.

Sewing Lounge will provide tools allowing students to get accustomed to what they like ahead of purchasing their own.

If you don’t have a machine you can use a Sewing Lounge machine at no extra charge. Let us know when you register and we’ll reserve one of ours for your use.
