WHAT: Winter Wool Coat Competition

WHEN: Submissions due January 11th, 2025

CATEGORIES: Best Overall, Most Creative Design, Best Lined Blazer

IMPORTANT: You can enter in all three categories but only one prize per contestant will be awarded.

WINNERS: Each Winner in a Category will receive a $200 Sewing Lounge Gift Certificate.

JUDGE: Carol Mager, MS, Assistant Professor of Fashion, Design and Merchandising at Saint Catherine University. Before teaching Carol worked for 10 years in outerwear for Field and Stream, then 10 years doing men’s and women’s tailored outerwear for B W Harris.

Rules & Information

Wool fabric must be purchased from Sewing Lounge. “Wool” fabrics include alpaca, cashmere and camel hair.

While we have a nice range of lining, interfacing and buttons, these components can be sourced elsewhere.

Coat must be made after January 1, 2024, and be an adult size.

Coats will be judged on excellence of construction, finishing and fit.

Submissions must be made no later than January 11th, 2025 and be accompanied with a completed registration form as well as front and back views of the chosen pattern.

The top six contestants (2 from each category) will be called in on January 24th for a fit analysis. If you make a coat for someone else, they must be present for this part. Judging of semi-finalists will take place in the next two days with the winners announced on January 31st.

A completed form, images of the submission (front and back garment views must be provided in JPG or PNG format), and written out modifications (for Category 2 submissions) must be provided to Sewing Lounge via email or in person no later than January 11th, 2025.

Criteria/consideration: Patterns can be used, significant design changes are the focus. We require modifications be provided for submissions to this category.
